The team of Singam 2 is all excited about the film
On a rainy Sunday evening, Singam star Surya surprised journalists by asking them if they liked the Singam 2 teasers that were screened. It was clear the actor was expecting a lot from this film. “I never thought we would be doing a sequel for Singam,” he said at the press meet, and added, “But the response we received from the audience for (the character of) Doraisingam emboldened us to make this sequel.”
Having got his big break playing a cop in Kaakha Kaakha, Suriya acknowledged that cop films have proved to be significant in his career. “My career received the much-needed thrust after Khaaka Khaaka. Singam too was a milestone in my career. Its success expanded my market.”
The actor said it was important to keep the core team of Singam intact for the sequel. “Both Hari and I work well in tandem. He knows what I want even without me telling him. Devi Sri Prasad’s songs have also played a big part in the success of Singam. I am glad all these people have come together for the sequel.” Director Hari admitted to the pressure the whole team was feeling. “Even while I did Singam, I knew I had to give something new to audience; something other than Kaakha Kaakha or Saamy. Singam II was even bigger a challenge.”
For Hari, Singam II has turned out to be bigger than all of his earlier films. “I had to spend a bit more than I usually do,” he said. The sequel not only has a bigger budget, it also has a star cast, including the likes of Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani, Manorama, Vivek and Santhanam.
Though Bollywood Singham Ajay Devgn, who was originally supposed to attend the audio launch pulled out, questions were raised if there were plans for a third film. While Surya said he was game, Hari was non-committal.
